Doe Den Tap Toe
First performance of a piece for digitally-treated drum kit, showcased at the Facscinate Conference in Falmouth last year. The performer was Adam Loveday Edwards, programmer Thanos Polymeneas Liontiris and concept/texts by myself. The texts were based on three sources; 1) the Dutch phrase ‘doe den tap toe’ which means ‘turn off the taps’ and is where the military meaning of ‘tattoo’ comes from, 2) extracts from James Leach’s essay, ‘Drum and Voice: Aesthetics and Social Process on the Rai Coast of Papua New Guinea’ and 3) Russian criminal tattoos. This was a proof-of-concept showing and we are now looking at ways of developing the technology further. Click here for a youtube video.
